Intervention/exposure
Study type
Interventional
Description of the intervention or exposure
High-dose omega-3 fatty acid supplementation (Arm 2)
Participants will receive oral omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-3 PUFA; approximately 4800 mg/day) supplementation containing eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) for 4 weeks. Participants will consume four capsules daily with food. The study supplement is a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)-registered fish oil preparation. Adherence will be assessed by capsule counts and participant self-report.
Intervention code [1] 334763 0
Treatment: Drugs
Description of the comparator or control
Low-dose omega-3 fatty acid supplementation (Arm 1)
Participants randomised to Arm 1 (comparator arm) will receive oral omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-3 PUFA) supplementation containing approximately 1200 mg/day of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) for 4 weeks. Participants will consume one capsule daily with food. The study supplement is a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)-registered fish oil preparation. Adherence will be assessed by capsule counts and participant self-report.

Eligibility
Key inclusion criteria
Healthy male and female volunteers aged 18–45 years with a body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 and 28 kg/m². Participants must be willing and able to provide written informed consent, comply with all study procedures, attend study visits, and consume the allocated omega-3 supplement for 4 weeks.
Minimum age
18 Years
Maximum age
45 Years
Sex

Key exclusion criteria
Individuals with a history of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, chronic inflammatory or autoimmune disease, liver or kidney disease, or other clinically significant medical conditions. Current use of omega-3 supplements or medications known to influence lipid metabolism or immune function, allergy to fish or fish oil, pregnancy or breastfeeding, current smoking or excessive alcohol consumption, participation in another clinical trial within the previous 30 days, or any condition that, in the opinion of the investigators, would make participation unsafe or interfere with study completion.
