Description of the intervention or exposure
The study is being completed as protein digestibility declines with age. However, at this stage of the research we are using one-off fecal donations from generally healthy donors between 18 and 65 years. Participants will fill out a brief health questionnaire to access their eligibility to participate in the study, Eligible participants will be provided with a fecal collection kit and be asked to donate a one-off fecal sample. On receipt the fecal sample will be processed into a fecal slurry within 4 hours of collection. The fecal sample will be exposed to different kiwifruit varieties (Hayward, HiHi, RubyRed) with a mix of meat proteins including chicken, pork and lamb, each kiwifruit variety with no meat protein, meat protein with no kiwifruit and no treatment controls. Following treatment the fecal samples will be left to ferment up to 24 hours. Sub-samples will be taken for analysis through-out the fermentation process.
